How to Obtain a Hunting Permit in Utah

There are a few ways to obtain a Big Game Hunting Permit in Utah

* Utah DWR Big Game Draw.

          The most common way to obtain a Big Game Permit in Utah is through the Annual Big Game Drawing
           hosted by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.  The application period for this drawing begins in
           March of every year.  50% of the allotted permits for every Hunting Unit are awarded based on the
           "bonus point system" where you earn a point for every year that you apply for a permit and DO NOT
           Draw.  Those applicants with the highest number of "Points" are awarded a permit.  The other 50% of
           the allotted permits are awarded to the "General Pool" of applicants.

* Utah Sportsman's Hunting Expo.

           Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife conduct the annual "Sportsman's Hunting Expo" generally the second
           weekend in February of every year.  You must attend the Expo in order to apply for the general raffle
           of  200 of Utah's Limited Entry Big Game Permits.  Each application only costs $5.00.

* Conservation Permit Banquet Auction.

           A given allotment of Utah Limited Entry Big Game Permits are awarded to Non-Profit conservation groups
           in Utah every year.  These organizations include RMEF, SFW, MDF, UAA, NWTF, and the WSF.  These               organizations conduct "Banquets" every year where the allotted Big Game Permits are Auctioned off.                 These funds are considered "donations" and are tax-deductible.  The funds generated from these                       banquets are then put toward habitat growth and other projects that are conducted by these non-profit               organizations.
